I am 8 Bit - "All or Nothing"

“All or Nothing/Sk8 or Die” - 16"x20" Acrylic + Ink on paper mounted to wood

I was humbly asked a few months ago to be apart of the “Super I am 8 Bit” exhibit at the I am 8 Bit gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Since their inception in 2005, I am 8 Bit has put on two huge art shows, and a cluster of many other events that have shown tons of respective illustrators, painters and artist who took the time to interpret their favorite 8-bit video game from the 80’s through early 90’s.

For my piece, I choose to do a painting about the 1980’s video game Sk8 or Die. Growing up I’ve always rode a board and from time to time still do (through I bike more these days!) I also played this game amongst many other classics like Duck hunt, Zelda the legion of link and Super Mario. I wanted to take on an interpretation of the game that focused more on the pause of the character who skated on the street. I wanted to some how that the dude was putting it all into what he was doing without really showing him going through an extreme work out.

Many thanks to the curators who spent so much time to build up the show.

The recepetion is Tonight, August 11th 2011 from 7pm to 11pm
